Senior IT Technical Engineer
Aker BP aims to be the exploration and production company of the future by transforming the way we work and operate. We are setting new standards by focusing on safe production and low emissions in the oil and gas industry.
We have big plans– do you want to join us?
This position is part of IT Operations and the IT Infrastructure Management team. We are responsible for the IT Infrastructure in Aker BP, onshore and offshore. To strengthen the team, we are looking for a Senior IT Technical Engineer supporting the dedicated Exploration and Reservoir (ExpRes) Infrastructure.
As a Senior IT Technical Engineer at Aker BP, you will be part of a highly specialized environment where technology is rapidly evolving. You will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing our HPC (high performing compute)-linux clusters to support our exploration and reservoir services. Our ~500-node clusters are currently “on-premise” and we are gradually growing into Azure with some workloads. Your expertise in HPC/linux-clusters, Linux OS, cluster management solutions, file and queue systems will be essential in driving our digital transformation and ensuring efficient operations. You will also work with a diverse application portfolio for the Exploration and Reservoir Business Unit, contributing to innovative solutions and enhancing our capabilities in the oil and gas industry. We operate our Infrastructure together with our IT service partner, TietoEvry.
Typical work tasks can be:
- Manage OnPrem HPC Server Clusters and potentially Azure clusters, ensuring optimal performance and reliability on a day-to-day basis.
- Work extensively with Linux operating systems, focusing on system administration and optimization.
- Operate the solution cluster management solutions such as HPCM and xCat to streamline operations and improve efficiency
- Utilize and manage queue systems such as LSF to ensure efficient job scheduling and resource allocation.
- Manage high performance parallel file storage systems such as Lustre and BeeGFS. Oversee networking components like Infiniband to maintain high-speed data transfer and connectivity
- Support remote clients using TGX and FastX to provide seamless remote access to resources.
- Manage NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems, with both NFS & SMB.
- Work with Infrastructure optimization relevant for the application portfolio and support superusers. Examples of our application portfolio: tNavigator, Eclipse, Intersect, OPM (open porous media), PSPro, Tensflow, GRT and Reveal (commercial seismic processing software). In addition, we have internally developed software, R&D algorithms and code.
Skills and qualifications:
- Education – University degree within IT Infrastructure or similar. Relevant experience can compensate for education.
- We are looking for someone who is not only passionate about technology but also about working with people. The ideal candidate is a structured team player with strong technical expertise and excellent interpersonal skills. This team is a small team, and as long as you have a positive mindset and like people, introvert individuals who enjoy working with others are very welcome.
- This position requires multidiscipline skills; We expect documented experience with Linux clusters and how applications are tuned to run optimally. Experience in oil and gas and the application portfolio will be an advantage.
- Fluent abilities in Norwegian and English, both verbal and written.
